DearSouthEndResidents, I hope my letter finds you well. I am writing to sharewith you our current ideasfor the reuseof the Brown School. Initially, we were considering the possibility of sellingthe schoolfor some mixed-use housing, but after listening to residents and lookingat the broaderschooland youth needsof our city, we believewe havecome up with a better option. We are activelydiscussing (NYS) relocatingNewburyport Youth Services to the Brown Schoolto provide better space with a full gym and kitchen. In addition, the Nock/MolinSchoolrenovations are not expanding the footprint of the building and spaceis at a premium. As a result,we are considering movingCentralOfficeto the BrownSchool which would free up this wing at the Nock/Molinfor additional classrooms, including spacefor foreign language. Rehab services, Occupational, Physical and Speech Therapies work directly in the schools and needofficespace, whichcouldbe accommodated at the BrownSchool. The playground and Lydia's amphitheater would remain for the benefit of the community, (NYS). including Newburyport YouthServices We are building two new playgrounds as part of the Bresnahan schoolproject;we may be able to relocateone of the existing structures currentlyin usethat is onlysixyearsold to add to the recently installed structures at the BrownSchool.

Althoughthere is still a real need for additional affordable housingin our City, the above proposal for reuseof the BrownSchool addresses many needsfor schoolpersonnel, additional classroom spacefor our children and retains the full playground areafor the community. We may alsoseekadditional renters compatible with the proposed useto help defrayoperatingcosts. Community meetings will be scheduled in the nearfuture onceour Superintendent, Viccaro, hasthe opportunity Susan to evaluate the proposal further. Please do not hesitate to contactme if you havequestions, ideas additional or concerns at holadavformayor(ogmail.com or 978-462-5654. Sincerely,
