I am forwarding a request for funding for the Baltimore Excellence in SCience,

Technology, Engmeenng and Mathematics (STEM) Teaching Partnership (BEST
Partnership) in the FY 2010 Commerce, Justice, SCience and Related Agencies
AppropriatIOns bill. These funds will be used to leverage these institutIOns' capabilities
and resources to respond to the Baltimore region's need for more STEM (SCience,
technology, engmeenng and mathematics) teachers, focusmg on teacher development,
school outreach, student recruitment and new teacher induction. The entities to receive
funding for this project are Towson Umversity, Coppin State Umverslty and University
of Maryland Biotechnology Institute (UMBI) located at 8000 York Road, Towson, MD
