BC Hydros Electric Power System and Equipment

Seminar: When: Tue. 22 Jan. 2013, Kaiser 2020/2030 Time: 12:30 2:00PM Pizza will be provided! Abstract:
The presentation will give an overview of BC Hydros electric power system including generation, transmission and distribution facilities and equipment with the main focus on overhead transmission lines and substation equipment. The presenters will also talk about the major transmission expansion projects currently underway across the province and some related technical challenges.

Speakers:
Mazana Armstrong is a Engineering Team Lead with BC Hydro Transmission Engineering. Her responsibilities include electrical aspects of the transmission line design, operation and maintenance including environmental aspects of transmission lines such as RI, TVI, audible noise; electric and magnetic fields and the related induction and biological effects; tower shielding design; tower grounding; engineering aspects of worker safety; joint use of ROWs and other topics relevant to the design, maintenance and management of BC Hydros transmission system assets. She holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Zagreb, Croatia, and M.A.Sc. and Ph.D. from the University of British Columbia, Canada. Mazana is a registered Professional Engineer in the Province of British Columbia. She is also a paper reviewer for IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, and she is a member of the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) and the IEEE Standards Association. Mazana is the Chair of 2013 IEEE Power and Energy Society General Meeting, and past-chair of IEEE Vancouver Section. Bob Stewart is a Principal Engineer Electrical, at BC Hydro with 30 years of experience in Transmission, Generation and Distribution. He is BC Hydros representative on the Electric Power Apparatus Committee of AEIC. He is also a member of the UBC ECE Departmental Industry Advisory Committee, and the BC Hydros liaison to the Electrical Energy Systems Option. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE, and is registered as a Professional Engineer in the Province of British Columbia.
