Dear Chairman Obey and Ranking Member Lewis:

I am requesting funding for the Chesapeake Bay Interpretive Buoy System (CBIBS). The
entity to receive funding for this project is the National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration located at 410 Severn Avenue, Annapolis, MD 21403. A used to a
network of environmental observation platforms in the Chesapeake Bay designed to
provide real-time data and interpretation to further protect, restore, and manage the
Chesapeake Bay. The funding will be used to launch two new buoys in Virginia, one at
the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay (at the convergence of Norfolk, Hampton,
Northampton Counties) and the other on the Eastern Shore of Virginia off of Accomack
County. This will fill major gaps in our monitoring capability in the Chesapeake Bay. I
