The qualities of sound

Each art uses different materials to make work of arts. Sounds make up the main material of music. The musician plays with the four characteristics or qualities of sound to create his or her music. They are: -Pitch-It indicates if a sound is low or high (low pitch or high pitch). In music is represented by the music notes. -Duration-It allowes us to differenciate if a sound is short or long. In music it is represented by the note values. In music notation, a note value indicates the relative duration of a note, using the color or shape of the note head, the presence or absence of a stem, and the presence or absence of flags/beams/hooks/tails. -Intensity-It is the volume that allowes us to recognize if a sound is strong or weak. In music is represented by the different shades. -Timbre-It is the quality of the sound that allowes us to rerecognize what instrument or voice is sounding.
