Rh BLOOD GROUP
Very important blood group 1st studied on rhesus monkeys Rh+ with D antigen on RBC surface Rh- without the D antigen Rh antibodies against Rh antigens do not develop unless Rh- person is exposed to Rh+ RBC

HDN- Hemolytic Disease of The New Born


Erythroblastosis fetalis Occur by blood transfusion or via transplacental from fetus to mother. TRANSFUSION Rh negative transfused with Rh positive= sensitized to the Rh antigens thus produce anti-Rh antibodies. 2nd transfusion= transfusion reaction can occur.

Pregnancy- First baby Mother- Rh negative > 80% baby is Father- Rh positive > Rh + Mother anti-D Second baby > HDN Rh+ : anti-D (M) react with babys blood

HDN- 1st aid- transfusion to replace babys blood via umbilical cord transfusion or delivery when baby is mature. Prev- Mom- given specific type of Ab preparation (injection)= Rho (D) immunoglobulin called RhoGAM
