What is the Malay Heritage Centre?

The Malay Heritage Centre was once called Istana Kampong Glamor Kampong Glam Palace Sultan Hussein used to lived in there.

Yellow Mansion
The Yellow Mansion in Malay calledGedung Kuningwas built for Tenku Mahmoud. The Yellow Mansion was painted yellow because yellow to the Malays signify royalty. Now it is a restaurant calledTepak SirehThe restaurant sells Songkoks and Green Fabric Belts.

When was the Sultan Mosque built?


The Sultan Mosque was completed in 1826 and was rebuilt in 1928. Its dome base formed out of many glass bottles given by the poor people. Its maximal capacity at any one time is 5000 people.

Arab street is along Sultan Mosque and many shophouses such as textile shops, furniture shops and souvenir shops.

Bussorah Street in Malay is called Kampong Tembaga or Kampong Khaji In English,it is known as Copper Villagebecause in Bussorah Street,they sells copper crafts and brass wares. They also sell hawker food along the street such as Satay. People there sell Green Fabric Belts and also Chapal or sandals.

Pahang Street
Pahang Street sells tombstones and delicious food. It is a lively district that is rich in Islamic history and culture.

Kandahar Street
Kandahar Street sells delicious traditional food and cakes. It sells many yummy delicacies such as Nasi Padang and Nasi Lemak.

Traditional Games in Kampong Glam


Many Traditional Games are mostly found in Kampong Glam. The famous ones are Five Stones,Kuti-kuti and Chapteh.
