Display a Directory
Display a directory allows you to display the contents of an entire folder on your Moodle course page. From a course design perspective, creating a folder to contain a collection of related files, reduces clutter on your course page and makes it easier for your students to locate important information you want to share. Zip Files Create a zip folder and save your pictures into here. 1. To create a zip folder right click on desktop and click on New > Compressed (zipped) Folder. Then save all pictures into here. OR 2. To zip a folder you already have right click Send To > Compressed (zipped) Folder.

Create Folder on the VLE 3. Log into the VLE. Go to the course/unit page you would like to add the folder to. 4. Go to the Administration block and click on Files. 5. In files click on Make a Folder at the bottom of the page. Name the folder. 6. Upload your zip file into your folder 7. Click on Unzip. This will unzip the files. 8. Check that all the files have been unzipped then delete the zipped file.

To show the folder on the main VLE page 9. Log into the VLE. Go to the course/unit page you would like to add the directory to. Click the turn editing on button.

10. Go to the week/topic you would like to add a directory to and click add a resource drop down menu and choose Display a directory.

11. Type in a short name for the resource. This will be displayed on the courses homepage. Note that it doesnt have to be the same name as the course files directory which you are displaying as a resource , it may be useful anyway.

12. From the Display a Directory drop down menu click the name of the folder you wish to display. 13. Click Save and return to course.
