Previous research shows that nanoparticles can cross both the bloodbrain barrier and blood-testes barrier in mice and rats, and are taken up by cells.

Ag NPs are they harmful?

The team involved in the study found that silver nanoparticles had a toxic effect on cells, suppressing cellular growth and multiplication and causing cell death depending on concentrations and duration of exposure. The effect was weaker for titanium dioxide nanoparticles. Cell type-specific DNA damage, with possible consequences for fertility performance as well as human and environmental health, was caused by both types.

Condensed matter physics

Deposition has been modeled assuming an adult breathing through their nose at 25 l/min (light exercise), and exposed to spherical particles with a density of 1000 kg/m3.

Nanocrystals
Nanometer-sized single crystals, or singledomain ultrafine particles, are often referred to as nanocrystals.
