Announcements Volunteer shirts will be available to order until Fall Induction (8/22). They are $11 and can be ordered from Sarah or Mrs. Henry. Remember, you have to wear your polo and khakis when volunteering if you dont have a work shirt. The shirts are optional but highly recommended. Everyone bring 1 drug-awareness poster and a roll of red ribbon to Mrs. Henrys room for a point; this is our mandatory point for the 1st 9 weeks! Due by 10/23 This is a mandatory event for all members. Contact Mrs. Henry ASAP if you have a conflict. Everyone needs to be backstage at 5:15 in khakis and polo. If youd like to help out for a point, there will be a sign up sheet on the stage. Were working on an opportunity at the National Trimathalon, a math competition for kids. More details soon.

Child Enrichment at Kennedy

Tuesdays/ Thursdays

This is the mandatory point for the 2nd 9 weeks. Its a canned food drive and competition against the other clubs at school. Bring 5 cans for a point, or 10 for two points (2nd point is outside point). Child Enrichment Classes are at Kennedy MS on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Youll just be hanging out with the kids. Sign up on the stage at meetings, or contact Michael at another time. Interested in helping out with the parade? Theres a meeting on 10/15 from 3-3:30 in K204. No need to sign up - just be sure to sign in there! Sign up with Rebecca to volunteer. If you couldnt get someone to drive for you, youve received a letter with details about the bake sale. 1st Nine Weeks: 4 Points Required End of 1st Nine Weeks: October 25

Mandatory Events and Points: NHS Fall Induction Ceremony (Tues, 10/22) The Fall Induction is a mandatory event for all members (no point rewarded). Contact Mrs. Henry with any conflicts well in advance. Everyone needs to be backstage at 5:15 in khakis and polo. If youd like to help out for a point, there will be a sign up sheet on the stage. Mandatory Point: Red Ribbon Week 10/23) The mandatory point for this nine weeks is for Red Ribbon Week. Everyone bring 1 well-made drug-awareness poster and a roll of red ribbon to Mrs. Henrys room for a point. Posters need to be about drug awareness, being drug free, etc. and need to be in good shape, not rolled up. The poster and roll of red ribbon are due by 10/23. Ford Drive Makeup (10/23) We got some rain at the Ford Drive and had to close up early. If youre one of the people who couldnt get someone to drive in time, youll need to do a make up since that was a mandatory fundraiser. You received a letter with details if you need to make it up. Volunteer and Point Opportunities: Attendance Office (Weekly) We could use 2 volunteers in the attendance office from 77:25 every morning, weekly. Attend everyday for a week to earn a point. Contact Cecilia to sign up for a week. Powell Elementary Library (Tuesdays) Volunteer to help sort and shelve books at the Powell Elementary Library on Tuesdays from 3-4 pm. Sign up with Rebecca. Boys and Girls Club (Tuesdays and Thursdays) The Boys and Girls Club is open from 4-6pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Its located at 1000 Enterprise Dr.Grand Prairie, TX, 75051. Be sure to sign in there. Child Enrichment Classes (Tuesdays and Thursdays) Child enrichment classes are held at Kennedy Middle School on Tuesdays and Thursdays. They need help supervising and playing with the kids. If you go, youll be doing things like playing sports and games or coloring with the kids. Sign ups will be on the stage at the meeting and with Michael at other times. Grand Prairie Seminoles (Saturdays) - The Grand Prairie Seminoles are looking for volunteers to work the concession stand at home football games. Games at the Young Men's Leadership at Kennedy Middle School: 10/26. Games at GopherWarrior Bowl: 10/12. The games usually last from 10am to 8pm. Contact Chance to sign up for a two-hour time slot.

Medical City Magazine/Book Drive (Ends 10/11) Were collecting donations of 5 magazines or 2 books to send to Medical City for the patients to read. Take yours to K204. National Trimathalon (10/19) - Were working on an opportunity at the National Trimathalon, a math competition for kids. More details soon. Homecoming Parade and Carnival (10/23) NHS is going to be in the Homecoming Parade. If youre interested in helping out/being in it, there will be meetings on October 15 from 77:25 or from 3-3:30 in Mrs. Henrys room (K204). Contact Alyssa for details . Upcoming Opportunities: Scare Away Hunger (10/28-11/1) Scare Away Hunger is a canned food drive and competition against the other organizations at school, and its our mandatory point for the 2nd 9 weeks. Bring 5 cans for a point, and bring 5 additional cans for an extra outside point! No Ramen noodles or perishable items please. Bring lots of cans so we can win the competition and Scare Away Hunger! Prairie Lights (11/28-12/31) NHS will be volunteering at Prairie Lights this holiday season. Well have more details soon. Retirement Home (TBA) - Were working on a volunteer opportunity at the retirement home. More details to come soon!
