Contents Page

The first thing you had to do is set your columns, grids and bleed up before you get to setting out your images and text boxes. I have three columns, 5 mm apart and 3mm between the columns and the articles. My contents page also has a 10mm bleed along the outside which means it will print the background colour continuously up to that point which means no white spaces in the background colour when printing. Here you see the beginning of my contents page. One of the first things I did was to set out image and text boxes from my flat plan and into In design. The column started and finished with the two purple lines either side. I imported fonts for my logo and main title from dafont. The black and white font and font style distinguish the logo and main title from the rest of the fonts because it shows they are more important than other texts. There is a date and issue/ volume number in the top right hand corner of my contents page; this is a convention of a contents page. There are social media links to my magazine at the bottom right hand corner of my content page which allows the reader to follow the magazine through those sites. It is also a convention on a contents page. The fonts that I have used above are Impact, Hobo Std and Kristen ITC. I have used three different fonts to make the reader aware of the different information on the page. For example; I have used the font Impact as the font for the featured articles. I have also used different effects for the fonts. For example; I used the font Kristen ITC and I made that font have a bubble writing effect. In my second column there are 2 articles that are my featured articles. On the images itself they contain folios, the folios are on the left hand side of the image. The font colour for the page numbers are black and pink which use the font Blackoak Std. This tells the reader what page the article is on in the magazine. Underneath the image they contain the headline to that article.

The reason why I used pink for the colour of my font is because it matched the colour of my masthead. The background colour is blue because I thought it blended nicely with the colours of the fonts. It also connotes; bright, cheerful and happy feeling to the reader. At the bottom of the third column there is a flannel panel, which informs the reader, who was the editor or who was the photographer. Then I decided to move the Oblivion article and image into the second column because I changed my mind that I wanted the features on the left hand side than at the bottom of the page. The features are on the left hand side with folios. The featured articles are in the font impact and underneath the article there is a short synopsis of what the article is going to be about which is in Hobo Std, so the reader can tell the difference between the two. There are 5 images on the contents pages, 3 of them connecting to the featured articles in the magazine and the other 2 are for the social media sites logos. There is an editorial on the right hand side column, which is just a short message from the editor of the magazine giving a short introduction to the magazine. I then had to merge all my layers together. The screen-print to your right hand side is the finished product of my contents page. It is a bit different from my flat plan design, in the layout but I am happy with my finished product. For example the features section was supposed to be across the bottom but I decided it would like better on the left hand side of the page.
