    Please see the attached flyer – we have been working with the Florida DEP to put together the 2nd Annual Greening Your Bottom Line Conference & Expo October 16 & 17. Its focus this year is sustainability in the hospitality industry. I am sending this to our board; please send this to any of your contacts who might be interested. Additionally, please make your students aware of this. Students can be involved in this in several different ways: · Attend the student networking event 10/17/13 at 6:00 at the Holiday Inn Downtown Fort Myers to meet people involved in the industry (RSVP to Martha Avila - martha.avila@dep.state.fl.us). Please encourage students to attend this free event – the DEP staff has gone out of their way to put this together as an opportunity for our students. You can attend too. · Volunteer at the event for service learning hours (contact Terry Cerullo at Terry.Cerullo@dep.state.fl.us) or · Register for the event at http://www.sbdc.fgcu.edu (Students and faculty receive a 15% discount)

    FGCUs Third Annual Childrens Mental Health Conference:

    Engagement, Education and Empowerment

    November 2, 2013 8:00am 3:30pm, FGCUs Cohen Center

    According to NIMH, half of all lifetime cases of mental disorders begin by age 14. In any given year, only 20 percent of children with mental disorders are identified and receive health services as reported by the U.S. Public Health Services. This conference aims to raise awareness and sensitivity by providing accurate information while bringing all stakeholders together to form a community alliance. The consequences of untreated mental health disorders in children and adolescents are severe. Preventing suicide, school failure, criminal behavior, and substance abuse are what we, as advocates, aim for as we promote treatment and recovery for our children and youth.
    Join us for a day of learning, networking, and sharing. We can all become better advocates for our children.

    Ross Szabo is an award winning speaker, author, consultant and returned Peace Corps volunteer. He was Director of Outreach for the National Mental Health Awareness Campaign for 8 years and is the co-author of Behind Happy Faces; Taking Charge of Your Mental Health.
