Session Structure Lesson Phase Orientation /Introduction How best to motivate and explain the importance of this lesson?

This should be for about 5 minutes with links to prior learning or experiences. Teaching strategy/Learning Activities What will support the students to learn the concepts you are trying to teach and to reach the learning outcomes? How will you cater for a diversity of learning needs? To begin the lesson and prepare the students engagement with math, I will do oral counting with the bead frame. Counting by 1s, 2s, 5s, 10s and 100s.

Following will be 2D shape revision where selected students will participate in a guessing game related to a shape behind their back and will then explain to the class how they knew what shape they were holding (describe the attributes) As a form of movement for the children (to get them of the floor) pattern revision using bodily movements will follow. E.g. clap hands, stamp feet 3D shapes will now become focus. I will talk to students about them (name, attributes etc) The shapes can be passed around so students come see them closely. Students can think about what representations they can see of these shapes in the environment. To further develop their thinking on ideas of the shapes I will play a short YouTube clip about some of the 3D shapes that gives extra ideas about where they might see the shapes. A colouring sheet with 3D shapes can be completed at the tables.

Conclusion /Closure How will you capture the main ideas of the lesson? Recap/revision etc. Children can return to the mat where some will have the opportunity to share their work with the class and we can discuss what we have learnt. Time permitting a game of Buzz using shape names can take place as a fun ending to the lesson. *Buzz is a game where a sequence is followed utilizing the word buzz. If on your turn buzz is next in the sequence you sit down until only 1 student is standing.

Assessment Strategies I will ask questions about the shapes learnt and see what response I get. What are the assessment strategies used throughout this lesson? These should be closely aligned to your lesson aims. How you will you record student learning outcomes? Daily revision similar to that of the 2D shapes will take place to reinforce the knowledge and understanding of 3D shapes Observation
