UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT DALLAS

Erik Jonsson School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science EECT 7326 Assignment #2 (Assigned 9/23, due 10/14 in class)
Objective In this assignment, you are asked to revise your five-transistor differential amplifier into a foldedcascode differential amplifier with CMFB. Again, set the overdrive voltages of all transistors in your design to 100-200 mV and the total current consumption (of all four branches) of your amplifier to 4 mA. Follow the directions below for your design. This amplifier will be used in future assignments of noise/feedback analysis. 1. Refer to HW #1 for specs of the amplifier, e.g., CM levels, loading, etc. Your output swing should be at least 2 V (peak-to-peak differential). 2. Biasing. You are allowed for one ideal floating current source of 1 mA. You can construct current mirrors using this ideal source. For cascode biasing, refer to the handout posted on the website. 3. CMFB circuits. Use a CT CMFB circuit without CM sensing resistors. Make sure your CMFB functions even at the max. diff. swing of the main amplifier. 4. Simulate the open-loop gain vs. the output differential voltage. Check that all transistors remain in saturation at the maximum output swing of 1.1 V. 5. Simulate the open-loop frequency response and produce the Bode plot. Determine the unity-gain bandwidth, second pole frequency and the phase margin. Report Guideline Write a concise report, not exceeding 2 pages for text and 2 pages for figures. It is very important that you show your results clearly and convincingly. Please typewrite your report with simulation results/figures attached. Teamwork Policy Individual works are expected. Discussion with others in class is encouraged. However, please submit a genuine report and design. No sharing of SPICE decks.
