Filings), Beaker, Water, Cup, paper towel, forceps (Tweezers), Magnet 1. Use the magnet to pick up the unknown 2. Set aside on paper towel 3. pour water into the mixture given 4. Salt is in solution so pour out the water and filter it with filter paper to separate salt. 5. Separate sand and pepper by pouring water into the remaining mixture of sand and pepper. 6. The pepper should float, so pick out with forceps 7. 7.and put onto paper towel by the unknown. 8.Determine unknown. Questions: 1. Was this easy for you to do? This experiment was not the easiest thing to do without proper instruction first. 2. What method will you use to isolate the salt from the sand: I will separate the sand and salt by pouring water into the mix and filtering out the sand, leaving a salt mixture. 3. What method will you use to isolate the salt from water: If I was going to be separating salt from water, I would evaporate most of the water.
