Year 7 MODERN FOREIGN LANGUAGES (French/Spanish) Pupils will: Develop all four skills of Listening, Speaking, Reading and

d Writing in French / Spanish. Find out interesting facts about France / Spain, French or Spanishspeaking countries and the people who live and work there. Develop use of basic French / Spanish grammar (nouns and genders, negative form, adjectives, regular and irregular high frequency verbs in the present tense) including an introduction to the near future tense. Be introduced to strategies to help them with their learning. Develop their independence in using resources, including ICT resources. Year 8 MODERN FOREIGN LANGUAGES (French/German) Pupils will: Continue to develop the 4 skills of Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing in the language they study Become acquainted with more specific cultural aspects of French and German communities. Work with a variety of longer texts and recordings, and a range of vocabulary and structures to enhance understanding. Develop their application of grammar in all skills, embed the near future tense and be introduced to the perfect and imperfect tenses alongside further key features of the language (possessive adjectives, reflexive verbs, adverbs, question forms, dative and accusative cases). Adapt previously learnt language to new contexts and develop independence in their learning.

Year 9 MODERN FOREIGN LANGUAGES (French/German) Pupils will: Use Target Language creatively and be exposed to the use of the language in real-life situations. Deal with unpredictable elements of the Target Language in all four skills of Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. Use dictionaries and reference material more effectively. Consolidate all grammar features studied in Years 7 and 8, embed the perfect tense and be introduced to the imperative form and impersonal structures. Be able to produce extended pieces of writing by using more complex structures and language (connectives, time phrase and subordination, more advanced opinions).

Start the GCSE course in the summer term.
