Genetic Deformities

in the genetic material. Genetic deformities are hereditary; they are the outcome of the genetic formation of the child. -can be passed on
Congenital Deformities
-are
defects or malformations present at birth; they are non-hereditary in so far as they are not due to the genetic stuff but to some genetic or physical damage during the process of fetal development. -cannot be passed on
Radiation x-rays Drugs- thalidomide Chemicals - mercury Nutritional Deficiencies - undernourishment Biological disease agents certain viruses or spirochettes
Genetic Deformities

Carrier of defective genes
Inherited and can be passed on to ones offspring is of great theoretical and practical importance.
May avoid the risk of begetting abnormal or deformed children by practicing contraception upon marriage. ( vasectomy and tubal ligation) Other prenatal procedures of anticipating birth may be done. ( fetoscope, ultrasound, or through amniocentesis methods.
Detection of Malformations
May decide to have an ABORTION rather than to give birth to a deformed baby.
