Dear Parents, Progress Reports went home last Thursday. Please sign and return them to school. A large percentage of the English grade is for writing. We will be starting Unit 3 this week and the writing focus is on narrative writing. Students will write stories that should take up several pages and tell what happened in a specific order. Writing is a new skill for first graders and something that we will be working on all year. This is reflected in their grades. Please let me know if you have any other questions regarding your students progress. I would also like to apologize to the bus riders who did not receive their progress reports. They are in the Monday folders that are going home today. Beginning next week, I will only be posting my newsletter on my blog. If you would like a paper copy, please send in a note or email me and I will happy to continue to send it in the Monday folder. Otherwise, I will assume you are able it access it online. In math, we have started fact practice. Some days we will have fact practice homework in addition to our regular math homework. Addition facts have to be memorized. One way you can do this at home is by buying or making flash cards using index cards. The facts we are working on now are addition doubles facts to 20. There will be another spelling list going home Wednesday. The pretest will be on October 24th and the test on October 25th. Have a great week! Mrs. Patsavas
