POW Grade 6 Due October 16 We have been studying patterns and their various representations.

We know that a pattern can be represented by a model, a picture, a rule, a t- chart, a graph and a story. Below is a pattern represented by a story. Your job is to answer the problem and to also represent the two patterns described in the story using ALL the other representations. You will show each of the two patterns with: A graph (two lines) A picture A rule A t-chart of values Jared was saving to buy a new lego kit. It cost $95.00. Jared began his saving plan with $8.00 He agreed to do jobs around the house and his parents agreed to pay him $5.00 a week for this. Jared was thinking about this plan. He decided to lobby his grandparents to give him $30 for Christmas up front so now he had $38.00 to begin with. He decided he could now do less work around the house and only get $3.00 a week from his parents. Which plan will get Jared to his goal quicker? TELL HOW YOU KNOW!!! Which representation of the pattern do you think is the easiest to help you find the answer to the problem? WHY? EXPLAIN Level 4
Thinking All the representations for the patterns are included and accurate Identified the best representation for solving the problem and explained why. The explanation of which representation is best used in this situation is clear and well reasoned. All representations are clear and easy to understand.

Level 3
Showed how you can use at least one representation to solve the problem. Most of the representations for the patterns are accurately done. How you know part is communicated. I had to guess once at what you meant. Representations are clear to understand. The solution statement is included. Most numbers have labels.

Level 2
Represented the story with several representations but did not successfully solve the problem.

Level 1
Story does not match the representations.

Communication

The explanation and solution is difficult to follow. Few numbers have labels.

The representations dont make sense. The explanation is unrelated to the representations.
