Section B [32 marks] Answer all the questions from this section. 9. a) Diagram 8.

1 shows a man trying to push a bull. Diagram 8.2 shows the same man trying to push a calf. Both the animals have different mass and the man noticed that it is easier to push the calf rather than the bull.

Diagram 8.1 (i) What is meant by mass? mark]

Diagram 8.2 [1

(ii) Using Diagram 8.1 and Diagram 8.2, compare the difficulty with which the bull and the calf can be moved. Relating the mass of the bull and the calf with the level of difficulty of getting them to move or change their direction when the animals are on run, deduce a relevant physics concept. [5 marks] (iii) Name the physics principle that explains the above situation. mark] [1

(b) In an open field, a boy is being chased by a wild bull. Suggest how he should run in order to survive from the wild bull. [3 marks]

Diagram 8.3 (c) Diagram 8.3 shows a pile driver which is used in construction (i) Explain how the hammer is able to drive the pile into the ground.

[6 marks]

(ii) State the changes needed to be made to the following if the driver is to drive the pile deeper into the ground. Mass of the hammer Height of the hammer [4 marks]

The diagrams above show two similar baby cots being oscillated up and down. The baby cot with the bigger baby oscillates slower than the one with the smaller baby. Based on the observation, (a) Make one suitable inference, [1 mark] (b) State one appropriate hypothesis that could be investigated, [1 mark] (c) Design an experiment to investigate the hypothesis stated in (b). In your description, state clearly the following : (i) the aim of the experiment, (ii) the variables in the experiment, (iii) the list of apparatus and materials needed, (iv) the arrangement of the apparatus, (v) the procedure of the experiment, which includes the method of controlling the manipulated variable and the method of measuring the responding variable, (vi) the way you would tabulate the data obtained, (vii) the way you would analyse the data.
