1. Enrolled / bonafide undergraduate students of the University of the Philippines System ONLY, under the following programs B.S.

. in Architecture, B. Landscape Achitecture or B.S. in Interior Design. 2. Participants may choose to joins as individuals, or as groups with a maximum number of three (3) people. 3. Groups can either be purely B.S. Architecture students, or a mix of the three courses provided that there is at least one student from the College of Architecture in the group.

Open to all Architects, Landscape Architects and Interior Design Professionals / Practitioners May join as an individual or a group with a maximum of three (3) members only, inclusive of the team leader. Team Leader must be LICENSED DESIGN PROFESSIONAL (Architect, Landscape Architect, or Interior Designer) and must have an affiliation with the University of the Philippines, as any of the following: UP Alumni, UP Faculty , UP Employee or as a UP Graduate Student

Team Members should be graduates of Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or Interior Design; BUT For the Professional Division, team members may not necessarily be licensed professionals, i.e. fresh graduates. and may not necessarily be from or affiliated with the University of the Philippines.

We can only allow an individual to have one entry, or join one team only. Double entries, or teaming up with another group, i.e. making a double entry, cannot be allowed.

Members of the UP Architecture Student Council (ASC), who are directly involved as Bibliothecas Organizing Committee or Secretariat are ineligible to participate. UPCA faculty and REPS, who are directly involved as Bibliothecas Organizing Committee or Secretariat are ineligible to participate.

Deadline for registration, payment and submission of validation documents is on November 8, 2013 (Friday). Registration can only be confirmed once you receive your registration slip. Only submission from confirmed registrants will be accepted. The Secretariat can only issue registrations slips once all documentary requirements have been submitted, and payment for registration fee has been made.

REGISTRATION FEE

Submission of entries for shortlisting shall not require printed materials or hard copies. All entries shall be submitted through the competition secretariats e-mail. A confirmation e-mail shall be sent by the competition secretariat, to those who have submitted their entries via email. The secretariat will be accepting submissions starting November 8, 2013 until November 23, 2013. Official Secretariat E-mail is: upca.extension@gmail.com

SHORTLISTING:

ONLINE SUBMISSION

Based on the number interested participants to date, the judges shall shortlist only 5 finalists each division. Concept Boards of shortlisted finalists will be posted in the competition website, as well as the College of Architectures website, for public viewing, three (3) days before the final announcement of the top 3 winners of each division.

SHORTLISTING OF FINALISTS

Winners shall be notified first via e-mail by the competition secretariats. Other shortlisted finalists will also be notified of the judges decisions through e-mail. Official public announcements shall be made through the competition website, the UP ASC facebook page and the UPCA website & facebook page Winners shall be required to print their boards, aside from presenting their registrations slips (and O.R.) to claim their prizes.

Participants shall be anonymous to judges, as only registration numbers shall reflect authorship of the entries. Boards & other submissions that will be viewed by judges, bearing identification marks other than the registration number shall be disqualified.

All entries are required to submit the following: Essay in PDF format A1 Sized Boards in JPEG format (from 6, we have changed it to a maximum of 8 boards)

Paper Size: A4 Maximum of 500 words to explain concept. Arial Font - 10. Spacing - 1.50. Only other data to be indicated: Registration Number and Title of Essay Only. Format will be uploaded in competition website on October 21, 2013 (Monday)

A1 BOARD CONTENTS

Template for location of reg. number and font size will also be uploaded into the competition website. All orthographic drawings must be scaled and have dimensions. Due to the unavailability of as-built sections of the Law Library. We are requesting that section heights and depths be based on the participants own measurements from their visits.

Has the overall design conveyed a fresh, modern, respectable image for the Law Library that will be relevant up until a period of 10, even 20 years? Has the design introduced innovative and sustainable systems not found elsewhere in existing law libraries in the Philippines?

Does the design afford different venues for users to experience the media forms available in the Library? Is the design able to showcase the different media that is available or would be available in the Library? Is the design able to provide appropriate and varying storage options for the Library?

Is the design easily accessible for all users (children, elderly, disabled, etc)?

Signages and Way-finding.


Is the zoning and arrangement of library collection and spaces efficient, so as to facilitate easy access to users? Is the design easily legible to first-time users? Will the user be able to navigate the design easily? Are appropriate signages & way-finding implements located at strategic locations within the design?

Lighting Balance.
Is the design able to integrate effective daylighting into the project? Does the design provide varied artificial lighting systems for different tasks within the library? Is the design able to effectively minimize shadows and glares?

Are the spaces properly zoned and organized as to facilitate a surveillance of library assets by all users, most especially administrators? Are security breaches and risks avoidedwith the introduction of commercial partners or tenants in the library?

Are there spaces provided for display of books for sale from partner publishers? Is there minimal interference with regular library service, even with the introduction of commercial partners or tenants? And at the same time, will commercial tenants be able to thrive or capture sufficient market within the design, even with limitations from being partnered with regular library services?

Clarity of Concept. Based on the required essay


write-up, and the concept board of each entry: Is the written concept well-conveyed or effectively reflected in the translated design? Is the concept relevant to the UP Law Librarys vision for itself?

Is the board content complete so as to properly illustrate both concept and technical details of the project? Does the board layout employ an effective organization of ideas and drawings? Are the presentation techniques employed visually appealing and impressive?
