    Hypothetical Constructions

    1) 2) 3) 4) 5) Wish: 1 -Wish + past tense ( the situation is in the present) I wish I had a motorbike. = Imi doresc sa am o motocicleta. 2 -Wish + past perfect (the situation is in the past) I wish I hadnt seen him. = Imi doresc sa nu il fi vazut. 3 - Wish + would + verb (the situation is in the future) I wish it would stop raining. Would is used when the speaker wants somebody or something else to change or it is used to describe an annoying habit. Id rather: 1 - Id rather + past tense (the situation is in the present) Id rather you didnt smoke in here. 2 - Id rather + past perfect (the situation is in the past) Id rather you had come. Wish If only Would rather Its time / its high time As if / as though

    If only: 1. If only + past tense (present situation) If only she could stay ( but she cant). 2. if only + past perfect (past situation) If only she had been here (but she wasnt). 3. if only + would (future situation) If only she would come (I know she wont).

    Its time / its high time: They are followed by past simple or continuous (the situation is in the present): Its time we left. Its high time I was going.

    As if / As though: 1. As if + past tense (present situation - unreal) He acts as if he were the boss ( he isnt). 2. As if + past perfect (past situation - unreal) I feel as if a train had hit me (it didnt). 3. As if + present tense ( present situation - real) You look as if you are having second thoughts (true - you are).
