UPDATE: NO ENDORSEMENT BUT ENGLEBRECHT AND TRUE THE VOTE APPLAUD BRANCH'S VOTER FRAUD TASK FORCE
Clarifying their position in light of yesterday's press release from Branch campaign
In his release yesterday, Republican AG nomination candidate Dan Branch cited True the Votepresident Catherine Engelbrecht praising both he and his initiative. Her statement read like an endorsement Branch's statement quoted her saying,"As a conservative who gets results, Dan Branch will devote the resources and attention necessary to prevent voter fraud and protect the integrity of eligible votes as our next Attorney General. Having spent more than thirty years practicing law and more than a decade fighting for Texas, Dan Branch has the experience and expertise to protect our states most important asset: the ballot box. Last night, True the Vote posted a clarification on its website. They said, ""We appreciate all good ideas on election integrity and voting policy regardless of the source. To confuse appreciation with a partisan endorsement demonstrates a misunderstanding of what a nonpartisan educational organization can do." This morning, spokesman Logan Churchill took it a step further by pointing that neither Englebrecht nor True the Vote had endorsed Branch. As a 501(c)(3), True the Vote can not endorse candidates.
