Question #2

Even though, the GTM is used across all curriculum levels, we

have not achieved great enhancements on all language skills like

speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Rather than having the GTM

only in my school teaching, I would like to integrate several methods

to teach various skills and aspects of language. First of all, I would

operate the Whole Language Method to make the language become

more naturally adapted to students. Through the real communication

about natural events and topics, students would be more motivated

and interested in learning the language. Without correction of

grammars and using language, students are more participated and

involved by eagerly talking about issues in that language. After

making students be motivated and involved with the WL method, I

would like to use the Audio Lingual Method and the Total Physical

Response Method to enhance their listening and speaking skills. By

combining the ALM and the TPR, students would drill a bunch of

sentences; repetition and physical movement help students to

memorize and use the language naturally. For reading and writing
skills, I finally use the GTM to have students learn and study about

grammar rules and reading. From the sentences and contents that

they drill with the ALM and TPR, students derive and focus more on

grammar and translation at this time. Their reading and writing skills

are achieved from the GTM lastly. Like this, combination of various

methods would bring the most successful way of teaching and

learning languages.
