In World War II, it is said that Philippines suffered most in the hands of the Asian ruler Japan. It is evident by how the Japanese tortures the Filipinos and American soldier by making them walk a thousand miles away. Some history states that women were also raped and a thousand houses were put on fire. Just hearing things like this makes you and I shiver. How about the people who experience it? How do they feel back then? How do they feel just remembering these painful days? How do they survive? I was able to talk to the grandparents of one of my friends. Lola Paciensa was around 14 years old when she experienced the horrors of the Japanese. She lived in Marinduque back then. She stated that whenever they go to the market, they would act like they sided with the Japanese instead of the American because at that time the American lost the fight in the Philippines. She mostly stays at home to avoid the Japanese. She doesnt talk to them because she fears them. When the Japanese put havoc to their place, they would run to the mountains and hide. She sometimes sees some Filipino and American soldiers hiding in the mountains too. She stated that she saw two men died in the hands of the Japanese. They were tortured by putting them under the sun and by being kick and smash with a rifle. Lolo Alfredo also experienced it. He was caught by five Japanese soldiers and been put under the sun. Luckily he was able to escape and hide in the mountains.
