Daily Lesson Plan for Student Teachers

Teacher: Date: Cathrine Tunstall Time : Subject: Language Arts Plan approved by: Grade: Third

November 1, 2012

Behavioral Objective(s): The student will correctly identify proper abbreviations of common words.

Pennsylvania State Academic Standard(s):

R3.A.2.1.2: Identify and/or interpret the meaning of content-specific words used in text.

Materials and/or Equipment: Colored Notecards Chalkboard or Whiteboard

Modifications for Individual Differences: This student will be offered the opportunity to work with another classmate if they are having difficulty.

Activities and Procedures: Anticipatory Set: I will ask the students to tell me their ideas of what an abbreviation may be. Then I will tell the students the definition of the word. An abbreviation is a shortened form of a word or phrase. I will then tell the class that we will be playing Abbreviations Jeopardy to help them become familiar with common abbreviations.

Lesson Sequence: I will divide the class into two teams, and the game will have four categories of abbreviations. I will select a student from each team to begin the face off. The student who guesses what number I am thinking of from 1-10 will start the round. Then we will play a few rounds of the game. Each student will have the opportunity to answer a question. Periodically, throughout the game, I will call on students to tell me a random abbreviation.

Closure: Upon completion, we will go over several of the abbreviations covered in the lesson. I will ask each team to tell me some of the new abbreviations they have learned today.

Evaluation: The students will have a quiz to check for understanding.
