PLANT PROFILE
1.This workshop is a public sector industry which govern by the works/ workshop manager who is appointed by the central govt. 2.He is responsible for every action in the workshop. There are many persons applied for various works in workshop. 3.The workshop is divided in number of shops. Each shop does a specific job. 4.All the shops are separately managed by a senior section engineer.

HISTORY OF WORKSHOP GORAKHPUR


1. Gorakhpur workshop was established in 1903 for repair and overhauling of MG steam locomotives, coaches and wagons. 2. Due to gauge conversion from MG to BG, POH activity of 50 BG coaches/month was started in Sept 1984. 3. The POH of MG coaches was also stopped from January 2002. At present, this workshop is mainly carrying out POH of BG AC and non-AC coaches. 4. Capacity augmentation and modernisation Project Phase-I (costing Rs.22.7 Cr.) and Phase-II (costing Rs.18 Cr.) have been sanctioned and are under progress.

Two types of electrodes are used in this process. 1.Coated Electrode 2.Non Coated Electrode

GAS WELDING
The most important OFW process is oxyacetylene welding.
And three flames.

Heat Treatment Shop


Heat treatment process is employed to get desired properties in work piece. Some processes are.

1.Hardening 2.Normalizing 3.Tempering 4.Surface Hardening 5.Annealing

Railway wheels
Steel for the production of railway wheels and tyres is melted in the openhearth furnaces with the charge of 250 tons and tapping in two ladles. High quality characteristics of steel are provided by the subsequent processing at the out-of-furnace complex of steel treatment.

SPRINGS USED IN LOCOMOTIVES


1.The hot rolled material shall be reasonably smooth & free from distortion, twist, kinks and shall be straight.
2.The hot rolled bars shall also be free from harmful defects namely seams, folds, laps, cracks, holes, deep pits, grooves, excessive scaling and non-metallic inclusion which may lead to cracking during hardening or impair the serviceability of material. 3.The material shall also be free from harmful internal defects such as piping and segregations.
