Instructions on working in collaborative groups

Rationale / Objective / Goals: This is important because collaborative groups allows the student to brainstorm, compare / contrast ideas and solutions. By doing this it is my hope you gain a more in depth knowledge than what you may have gained solo. Working together works! Procedure: Determine the members of the group o I may assign students a group based upon how many groups I want to work the project and how many I want in a group (usually 4) Determine the jobs within the group o Group Leader (directs the groups activity) o Editor / Fact Checker (ensures project is properly written, facts are correct o Researcher (does initial research on project topic) o Recorder (takes notes, develops and writes final project) Work on project o Group Leader insures that all jobs are done o Group Leader insures consensus is reached concerning research before it is written o Group Leader insures the final work is reviewed by group members before submission Submit project Check for understanding: Have students explain the procedure to me Practice / reinforce : Have students model the procedure

Feedback: Take student questions. Evaluate and correct if necessary during practice / reinforcement
