CYBER SAFETY and DIGITAL RESPONSIBILITY

As the students of SCPS Lower School prepare to use the Internet in the computer Lab, we must first consider how to use the Internet safely and responsibly. This quarter, we will be completing a unit called Cyber Safety. There are many wonderful resources I will be using to support my teaching and enhance the students learning about this important topic. As an educator and a parent, I highly encourage you to have on-going and honest conversations with your children about cyber safety and digital responsibility. From Cyber Bullying to sharing personal information online, there will come a time where your child will be exposed to the pitfalls of the digital world. Although some conversations are more appropriate at a certain age, educating our students in the way he should go; and he will not part from it. It is with this bible verse in mind which I prepared my computer lab curriculum, and especially our up and coming unit on Cyber Safety. Thank you for your support,

Mrs. Kimberlee A. Fox

As Pre Kindergarten and Kindergarten mastered their Mouse Control and Technology Awareness through learning websites like Starfall and Boowa and Koala, grades 1-5 learned about word processing. Using Microsoft Word, the students were instructed to format an existing document. Students added technology terms like, Text, Cursor, Highlight, Font, Alignment, Bold, Underline, Italics, Clipart, Spell Check, Save, and Save As to their vocabularies! We are now illustrating our documents, using Word Art, Microsoft Paint, and KidPix. Look for our creations in the Akins Building soon.
