Access/Review Prior Knowledge: The students should have prior knowledge of the phonics and phonemic awareness of the letters Aa, and Bb. The students should also know the difference of uppercase and lowercase letters.

Topic presentation (What will the students be told?) The teacher will divide the class into the three different reading groups: creative critters, shining stars, and the delightful dragons. Starting with the creative critters, the teacher will: 1stDivide the room up into reading groups, and ask the creative critters to come to the middle of the classroom with a pencil and sit in a circle. 2ndThe teacher will sit in the circle with the students, and tell them that Today they will be learning about a new letter of the alphabet. 3rdThe teacher will then say But before we learn this new letter lets do a quick review of Aa and Bb (showing picture of the letters). Ask students if any of them know the sounds that Bb or Aa make, and have them all repeat these sounds together. Also reminding them of the upper and lowercase letters. 4thThen show the students the picture of the new letter Cc and explain the sound that the letter makes and have the students repeat this sound aloud together. 5thShow the students how to first draw the letter Cc on the Bb Cc worksheet on the teacher copy, and then have the students trace the letter Cc (Do not need to draw it on their own though). 6thHave students put worksheet aside and have them all stand up in place. 7thThe teacher will get the Cc beach ball and explain the directions, We are going to practice the sound Cc makes by lightly tossing the beach ball around the circle to each other (only go around circle once). The student will say the letter C and repeat the sound the letter makes and then come up with a word that starts with the same Cc sound. The teacher should most likely help guide the students towards an answer that has that Cc sound. 8thStart this game with the teacher tossing to a student and then have them toss the ball around the circle once, so that every child says a Cc sound once. 9thOnce finished have the students sit back down in the circle and pass out the plates. Each plate will already have a tiny bit of shaving cream already on it. The plates will also already have the students names on them. 10thThe students are to practice drawing the letter Cc in the shaving cream. During this process keep asking the students about the sounds Cc makes, and if a student finishes sooner than the others have him/her do the opposite case (upper or lower) of what they have already done. 11thOnce every student is finished and the teacher feels satisfied that each student understands the phonemic sound and phonics behind Cc the teacher can switch the reading groups around, and start over from the beginning of lesson for new groups. Each student at the end of this lesson plan needs to wipe their hands.

Modeling, Guided Practice, Checking for Understanding (Formative Assessment) The teacher will model how to draw the letter Cc on the Bb Cc worksheet, and help guide the students to Cc sounded words on the beach ball. The teacher will continually help any student that is struggling the phonics or phonemics behind the letter Cc. The teacher will check for phonemic understanding during the beach ball activity when the students are asked to give the Cc sound. This is repeated while the students are drawing their letter Cc in shaving creams, because the teacher should continually ask the students for the letter sounds for the letter, and keep track mentally of who understands and who is not. The teacher will also assess the phonics of the letter Cc by observing the students as they trace the letter Cc on the worksheet or while the student is creating their shaving creams Cc.
