What is the connection between bucket and pail? What is the relationship between fast and slow? 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. Define synonym and antonym. Have students cut word boxes apart. Working in pairs, have students put synonym pairs together. Share with whole group and discuss. In pairs, have students put antonym pairs together. Share with group and discuss. Introduce and define analogy. Give examples of relationships in analogies(types/opposites). Read analogy poem and have students determine relationships. 10. In pairs, have students write an analogy on white board to share with group. *Ask review questions about synonyms, antonyms and analogies. Using white boards, students can write additional examples to share.
