Note: you will need to read READING 2-4 (page 356-367) thoroughly to fully understand the view of Ford in dealing with its situation Questions to help your group in analysing the case study CASE 2-3: 1. Consider your buying experience in buying a car and buying a computer on-line (lets not assume that everybody has this experience, but you may be able to make sense whats involved). Can you provide an explanation on the differences between buying a car and buying a computer online? Do your best in providing the explanation or you can try Dells website www.dell.com to check it yourself. 2. What advantages does Dell derive from its virtual integration? How important are these advantages in the auto business? 3. What challenges does Ford face that are not also faced by Dell? 4. How should Ford deal with the challenges mentioned in your answer in point 3? 5. If you were Teri Takai i.e. the Director of Supply Chain Systems of FORD Motor Company, what would you recommend to senior executives? To what extent should FORD emulate Dells business model?
