    Cook was asked by Steve Jobs to join Apple in 1998. He joined Apple in 1998 as SVP of Worldwide Operations and also served as EVP of Worldwide Sales and Operations In January 2007, Cook was promoted to COO In January 2011, when Steve Jobs was under medical leave Cook was responsible for most of Apples day-to-day operations while Jobs made most major decisions After Jobs resigned as CEO Cook was named CEO of Apple Inc. on August 24, 2011. On October 5, 2011 Steve Jobs died due to complications from a relapse of pancreatic cancer.
