Workbook READY FOR CAE. Unit 3, Writing p.26: Formal letter I know its too long, but...

Dear Mr. Smith I am writing to you because of the disappointment the news about the public library in Blatchingtons Parkdale area. According to the survey we did last week I enclose the obtained datasheet almost half of the people we interviewed use those public facilities at least once a week. As you can easily work out from our inquiries, an average day more than fifteen people visit this library, and much more of we would visit the library if that big amount of money spent into the library which Mr. Markham claims that have had no response among the residents were spent there really. Actually, we have no proof of money injection. The only evidence we can bring is that if you ramble between the book shelves, you will hardly pick up a book written after 1990. Anyway, the worse comes when you try to look for a technical or scientific book: those which you can find were the ones that my parents would use when they were children. In addition to the lack of investment, the majority of the users of the library are children who want a place in which they can gather and do their homework or elder people who use it as a meeting point. Therefore, if this library is closed they would not have a real alternative library, due to the long way to the Central Library in Green Street. In conclusion, the library is much more than just a place to store books, and I am sure that if the investment were the right ones, much more people would visit the library. Everyone can practice some sport on the streets, but not everyone can afford a proper access to culture. Never should a Councilor forget that they are paid not only to manage public money properly, but also to provide fundamental social services. Those last are the most important, as they are never economically profitable. If they were, someone would like to get money from them.
