First Nations to Hold Walk to Bring Light to On-going CNRL Tar Sands Spills
Members of Cold Lake First Nation will be joined by other First Nations and allies in a ceremonial walk to bring light to the damage that is being done to Mother Earth by the on-going CNRL tar sands spills and other resource extractive industries. The tar sands spills have been going on for months, have spilled over 1.6 million litres of tar sands bitumen into the environment, forced the draining of a lake, and as just revealed contaminated ground water. Who: Members of Cold Lake First Nation, Idle No More and allies. What: Idle No More Walk for Future Generations Cold Lake. Where: Walk from Cold Lake First Nations Dene Casino (HWY 28), through Cold Lake, AB to La Corey, AB (HWY 55), then south on HWY 41 to Bonnyville, AB. After camping outside of Bonnyville, AB, walk back to Cold Lake Dene Casino making a full circle of solidarity. When: Oct. 26 28th. (Full schedule is below). DAY #2 (Sun. Oct 27, 2013 at 8:00AM) 34.2 KM: Imperial Oil (Esso) Plant Turn-off (HWY 55 & RG RD 892) to Bonnyville, AB (HWY 28) making a walk through LaCorey, AB (HWY 55 & HWY 41) - Camp Day #2 (Tentative Bonnyville Museum) 3. DAY #3 (Mon. Oct 28, 2013 at 8:00AM) 39.9 KM: Bonnyville, AB (HWY 28) to Cold Lake First Nations Den Casino (HWY 28).
