Planned DWI Enforcement Operations

October 29, 2013
Officers from the Morris Township Police Department will be deploying this Thursday to stop and arrest alcohol and drug-impaired drivers in Morris Townships ongoing traffic safety campaign. DWI Saturation Patrols will deploy on Halloween Night, Thursday October 31st, between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. in areas with high frequencies of DWI collisions and/or arrests. The Morris Township Police Department is committed to making the streets of Morris Township safe for both motorists and pedestrians. The DWI saturation patrols to be conducted throughout our community will provide the education and enforcement needed to correct the type of dangerous behavior that puts everyone at risk. This is particularly important on Halloween, when children and families are out trick-or-treating. This is a Zero Tolerance crackdown so Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over! In New Jersey, this deadly crime led to 193 deaths in 2011 because someone failed to designate a sober driver. Nationally 9,878 people lost their lives because a drunk driver decided to get behind the wheel. So far in 2013 the Morris Township Police Department has arrested 74 suspected drunk drivers with an average BAC of .14%. Thats almost twice the legal limit of .08%. Funding for this program is from a grant from the New Jersey Office of Highway Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Report Drunk Drivers, Call 911!
