Lisa Werner 10-1-13 Poetry and Google Docs!

Introduction: We will begin each class by discussing the days content and language objectives. These will be clearly displayed on the board for students to see. We will then link the days new concepts to past learning experiences through discussion. Key vocabulary words will also be addressed at the beginning of each class to ensure students fully understand each term and will be able to apply it correctly. Throughout each lesson, students will be engaged in whole class practice 90% of the time. The other 10% of the lesson, students will learn through group work or individual practice. Content Objectives: SWBAT incorporate the five senses into their writing. SWBAT collaborate as a class to create a rhyming poem (A B A B) Language Objectives: SWBAT summarize orally with a partner the parts in the book that connect to one of the five senses. SWBAT read the lines of the class poem and write their own line that follows the appropriate pattern. Key Vocab: The Five senses Materials: Books, ipads Lesson Sequence: 1. Teacher will read a book/poem that uses the five senses (Shell Silverstein poem?). 2. Students will identify examples of how each sense was used in the poem 3. Teacher will model how to incorporate the five senses in writing. 4. Students will be given a topic to write about and a google doc will be opened to the class. 5. Each student will be given a number (1-20). That number will represent which line of the poem he/she will write. 6. Using their ipads, students will each contribute one line to the class poem, making sure it follows the ABAB pattern and being sure to incorporate one of the 5 senses. 7. Students will use google to add a picture that goes along with their line and the poems topic. They will also place a picture of a nose (smell), eyes (sight) ears (hearing) lips (taste) or hand (touch) to clearly identify which of the 5 senses they used in their line of poetry. 8. Students will come together as a class and read they poem the constructed aloud. 9. Discussion will then take place.
