The Horse and The Carabao
The Horse and The Carabao
A farmer decided to move to another town so one day he gathered all his belongings and loaded them to his horse and carabao (water buffalo.) They started their long journey early in the morning. A few hours into their journey the carabao started to suffer from fatigue and heat exhaustion. "My friend, I'm carrying much heavier loads than you are. Can you help carry some of mine?" the carabao asked the horse. "Well, it was our master who loaded you up more than he did to me, so you handle it yourself," the horse replied. "Please help me. The heavy load and the heat of the sun are killing me," the carabao begged. The horse ignored him. He walked faster leaving behind the carabao in great distress. Shortly afterwards the carabao passed away. After having realized what had just happened the farmer took out all his belongings from the back of the dead carabao and loaded everything on the horse who, henceforth, could barely walk with his very heavy load. "Had I helped my friend this would not have happened," the horse said remorsefully to himself. (www.katig.org)
