School: Cranmer Primary School

Address: Cranmer Road, Mitcham
Teacher: Year 3, Mrs Barbour and Miss Gleeson
Curriculum/ Area of Learning: Literacy

Learning Objectives:
To extract key words (adjectives) and phrases from text and apply it to create a weapon
To recreate what a Viking weapon would look like.
3 x JPEG Images of Visualiser being used in lesson:

How the visualiser was used:

A description of the Viking weapons was read as a class and key words were
underlined.
Children were then to tell the teacher how to make a sword using this
information.
The teacher made this under the visualiser so the whole class could see each
step. We then zoomed in on the main features. I.e.: runes on the sword and gold
and silver patterns.

Once children had made their own they then used the visualiser to show their
creation and discuss its features.

The benefits of the visualiser to teaching and learning:

• Assessment tool- did children understand the text and were they able to
use key words and phrases.
• Ensured all children were able to see how to make a weapon using the
materials- this also allowed all to be involved in class discussion.
• Children took pride in their work: they thoroughly enjoyed having their
work on display during the plenary
