How we used our Visualiser in Year 3

Subject: Science – Rocks and Soils.

Learning Objective: I can use different vocabulary to describe different rock

types.

Aim: To develop vocabulary of children and to identify similarities and

differences between different types of rocks.

How we used the Visualiser:

We used our visualiser as part of our science topic ‘Rocks and Soils’. We
looked at many of the rock samples we had in class using the visualiser
meaning that all the children could clearly see using the zoom. This was
particularly useful when asking the class to describe each sample using the
vocabulary we had already discussed in class.

We also displayed the work undertaken in the independent activity using the
visualiser. The children thoroughly enjoyed this aspect of it’s use and were
keen to come up and show off their work to the rest of the class.

Benefits of the Visualiser:

• Whole class discussions- can look at small objects/ samples enlarged
on IWB.
• Discussing children’s work samples
• Reading of shared text from a book that can also be enlarged on IWB
so all can read together.
• Ability to build up a file of still images taken by children in class and
save them to review in future lessons.
• Children are engaged by viewing each others work on IWB.
