How we used our Visualiser in Year 5

on measuring time.

Aim:
Show the effect of a particular drawing tool on the paper/Demonstrate examples of good work for
evaluation and stimulus/Show devices that depict time zones

How we used the Visualiser:
To zoom in onto a particular area of a picture to highlight the thickness of crayon and how the material
adhered to the paper/placed some examples of work under the visualiser to enable all to see
clearly/showed the worksheet to all as part of teacher intro/placed a mobile phone with time zone
display under zoom to show how light/dark is connected to moon and time.
Benefits of the Visualiser:
• By enabling children to see they way in which the tool would apply colour they were able to
better select the drawing tool to suit their picture.
• By making the exemplar of the work very large, the effect was more immediate and children
could see a model for their own work as well as things they could do to further enhance their
work. The headteacher commented on this particular use in a lesson and described it as
“excellent use of visualiser”.
• By allowing close-up visuals of a small object, the visualiser granted children excellent access
to a device that they would otherwise not have had prolonged visual access to. The visualiser
essentially replicated 30 mobile phones- hugely valuable from a resourcing point of view.
• The visualiser also provided a greater asset to the learning environment by cutting out a vast
amount of paperwork. Worksheets and books could be made easily visible to all without
having to photocopy even one sheet. This kept the learning environment clear and also saved
preparation time for resourcing, allowing a much greater emphasis on teaching and learning.
