What Are You Made Of?

If you throw a ball on a concrete surface it will bounce back up. A vase thrown on the same surface will smash and separate into pieces. If you take some chewing gum and throw it on a piece of paper, it is likely to stick. All of these things have a different nature. If the surface remained the same, why does each thing react to it differently? It is because of what each thing is made from, their substance. The failure or success of your business is predicated upon what you are made of. Your business can never go beyond the ceiling of your knowledge base, skills and talents. Your unique competence. Substance is everything when it comes to build something sustainable. The most important part of any building or structure is the foundation, the part that you do not see. The goal in business is to build something that can scale, to the point that, eventually, you do not have to be hands on. I like the thought of working on your business, not in it. That is

what true entrepreneurs do, otherwise it is just another job. If there is no profit, it is just a hobby. The nature of a prosperous business is continuous scale, growth and sustainability. This is why it is important to team up with talented and wise people. The type that can go beyond your limits, those specialized in areas outside of your potential. This means having a long and good search internally and evaluating your strengths. Businesses are made up of people. The leaders determine the direction of the business. What the leaders are made out of determines everything to do with the success or failure of the business. Know what you are made out of, and keep around you those that, add to, challenge and compliment you. Follow him on Twitter: @LesliePoku
