How we see the work of Christ is contingent on how we see the person of Christ (Gonzalez 122).

Each of the various christological positions...is amenable to a particular interpretation of the work of Christ (Gonzalez 122). For one who is attempting to show Christs work to a boy who is victim of circumstance, I will want to show him the person of Christ as but victim and victor. As victim, I may look at Anselms substitutionary atonement and see Christ as one who redeems us juridically; or Abelards subjective atonement as one who displays Gods overwhelming love for us (Gonzalez 124); or I may look at Christ as one who suffers with us (Moltmann). As victor, I would look to Aulens Christus Victor, and see Christ as the conqueror who defeats the powers of evil (Gonzalez 125-126). Christianity is a way of being in the world, a belief that that everything will be ok. To live in the hope in a world better that this one, whilst acting and realizing that hope in the world we are in now. It is to realize and participate in the roles of victim and victor that Christ played out for us. When I talk to Juan, I would like to show him not only the payment on the cross, but also Christ as one who suffers with us, one who shows Gods overwhelming love, one who suffers for us, and the one who is victorious and in whose victory we participate.
