the school year 2010/2011 and the beginning of the
school year 2011/2012. The data are result of the
regular statistical survey on secondary education.

Objective of education statistics is to present


data on condition, structure and development of
schools and classes, on structure and movement of
pupils and teachers, on results of education and
factors that affect the results. Education statistics
tasks are realised by collecting, processing and
publishing of data collected from all schools on the
territory of Republika Srpska.

Data on secondary education are result of the


regular statistical survey carried out at the end of the
school year 2010/2011 status after resits and at
the beginning of the school year 2011/2012. Data
collection is carried out through the following forms:

Data on boarding homes for pupils and


students are result of the regular statistical survey
carried on 28th February of the referent year. The
data are collected from boarding homes for pupils
and students, through the Annual report on boarding
homes for pupils and students (D).

Data coverage

Statistical activity covers all regular and


secondary schools for children with special needs.

The content of forms, in accordance with


which the data processing is carried out, is based on
the Statistical Programme of Republika Srpska.

Basic material on education statistics is


prepared and processed in Republika Srpska Institute
of Statistics.

Secondary school is an institution for performance


of activities in the field of secondary education and
upbringing. A school performs educational activity by
realising the educational plan and programme. This is
an institution where general and vocational
knowledge and skills, required for further education,
are acquired. Schools can be established as
grammar school, secondary technical or
vocational school, religious or art school,
school for children with learning disabilities
and secondary school for adult education.

Grammar school is a school that provides general


education for pupils, as well as education in
mathematics and natural sciences, social sciences and
languages, and in the field of computers and
informatics. This school lasts four years.

Secondary technical school provides four-year


education for certain occupation, with the possibility
of further university education.

Secondary vocational school is a school in which


secondary education by field of study and occupation
is acquired, and it lasts three years. For less complex
occupations, education can last less than three years.

Secondary art school is a school in which


secondary education for work and further education is
acquired, and it lasts four years.

Secondary religious school is a school where


pupils are educated for work and further education
and it lasts four or five years. Since school year
2010/2011, religious schools last five years. Data
referring to the fifth grade are shown in tables
together with data for the fourth grade.

Full time equivalent employment (FTE) is an


indicator that refers to part-time teachers in
equivalent to number of teachers working full-time.
The equivalent for teachers with full-time teaching
load is 1, while the equivalent for part-time teachers
is obtained as percentage of realised hours of work in
relation to the full time workload. Number of teachers
shown by the full-time equivalent employment would
correspond to the real number of physical persons.

Pupils' boarding homes are institutions that


provide accommodation, food and upbringing for
pupils of basic and secondary schools during
schooling time, out of their parents' place of
residence, as well as for pupils who for other
reasons need accommodation in home.

Students' boarding homes are institutions that


provide accommodation for students of high
schools, faculties, higher schools and art academies
during study time. Apart from accommodation,
students can also be provided with food.

: ISCED 3A ISCED 3C.

In secondary education of the educational system of


Republika Srpska, the levels of education are:
ISCED-3 which in the educational system of
Republika Srpska corresponds to education in
secondary schools. This level of education usually
begins upon completion of full compulsory primary
education and it is divided into two groups
depending on duration of school: ISCED-3A and
ISCED-3C.

ISCED 3A includes secondary schools of four-year


duration, and it allows for direct entry to the next
higher level of education.
This level covers secondary schools such as
grammar schools, schools of economics, medical
schools, secondary technical, religious and art
schools.

ISCED 3 .

ISCED 3C covers all secondary vocational schools of


two or three-year duration. This level leads directly
to labour market or to other ISCED 3 level
programmes.
