Lesson Objective:
The learner will activate prior knowledge about honeybees The learner will use a contents page

During the Lesson:


Begin the lesson by having students turn and talk with the person sitting next to them o What do you know about honeybees? o What do you know about beekeepers? Preview the book and make predictions The Buzz about Honeybees is an informational text because it gives facts about honeybees. o Beekeeper (page 5)- a person who raises bees o Larva (page 11)- the second stage in a honeybees life, what an egg hatches to o Pollen (page 3)- a powdery substance made by flowers Table of contents o Sometimes you may not want to read the whole nonfiction book o You may be looking for specific information o When you are looking for something specific, you can use a table of content o While Im looking for some information about honeybees, I first must look at the table of contents to figure out where to look what is in the table of contents Read aloud story to the class

No assessment today, they will write in their reading response journals about their own reading today
