Research into film opening

For my research into film opening I have chosen to analyses the opening scene of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. Title: not many title was shown in the opening, only the name of the film also the distributer, I think they have done this because it would make the audience to focus on the opening much more as it might give valid information of the film. The first title appears around the 30th second after the first scene of the film, also showed the distributors logo with black/grey clouds as background, this gives the audience the feeling of what the genre of the film is.

Sound: In the opening they have used a soft toned music, which is slow paced, mostly used when something bad or good is going to happen throughout the film, also around the end of the opening theyre where some dialogues. Camera: A lot of establishing shot where shown as this gives the audiences to know where the scene is taking place also cut/jump shots was used, also a slow close-up to the character, this shows the emotion the character is having. Medium/medium close up shot was used in a conversation scene.

Editing: The colour used in this opening scene was dark/grey colour also light colour was used; this gives the tone of the scene and also the feeling. CGI was used and also computer models where used for example the ghosts and the thunder in the beginning. The mise-en-scene used was a wand which shows that it was important also the gravestone, but not much of mise-en-scene where used. The ghosts and the location is made by GGI

The selection of soundtrack was done well as it really gave the feel of the opening scene, also the CGI was made really good all the models looked real life also they have done good on the colour correction for example in first part of the opening scene its dark which shows its unsafe and in the second half they have used light colour tone, this gives feeling that its a safe place.

I think the improvement that can be made is by introducing a narrative; this can give the audience flash back or little information to the first sequel to the movie.

From the research I have taken away some good ideas for my group opening scene for example I dont need a narrative, I dont need to include too many titles also include music as it will give the tone for my group opening scene.
