History of Halloween by Arvill B.

Have you ever wondered how Halloween started? Halloween began with the Celtic people 2,000 years ago in what is now Ireland, the United Kingdom, and northern France. November 1st was the end of the Celtic year, marking the end of the harvest and the beginning of the dark, cold winter. They had a huge festival and made huge sacred fires. The Celtic people did that to scare away spirits, but they also had a fire in celebration any excuse to party, right?. The reason why we wear costumes on Halloween is because of the Celtic people . Literacy Hotspot: The Woman in the Closet by: Rhiana R. and Sophia M.
A few years ago there was a college student named Bryan. Bryan had just recently moved into an apartment and noticed strange things happening. He noticed that things had been moved everyday when he came home from college. He began to feel a little scared. He called his friend, Trisha, who had given him advice to buy a camera and to leave it on in his room, so when he went to college it would video tape everything. Later that day, Bryan went to college and forgot all about the camera, at least until he got home. He went into his room and called Trisha. Hey I'm going to watch the video, said Bryan. Hey tell me whats going on, said Trisha being bored. OMG! shrieked Bryan. What happened? asked Trisha. A women with a kitchen knife went into my closet said Bryan. Well thats weird, but at least you have proof someones going into your apartment, said Trisha. Yeah, I guess I do now... said Bryan. Hey, Bryan you said she went into the closet, did she get out? Bryan get out now! screamed Trisha. But it was too late and Bryan heard the closet door creak open slowly. Later that day, the police came to the apartment. They found the cameras memory chip was stolen and the body of Bryan and the woman was never found. Be careful, she just may be in your closet right now...

Field Trip to Downtown Fresno

Kings Canyons Architecture and Art electives visited downtown Fresno on Thursday, Oct. 17th. They went to study the buildings, public spaces and art. They also met professionals in the industry. They sketched, took photographs and notes in order to create a final report on the trip. It helped them prepare for the quarters architecture project. On their tour, they went to the Santa Fe Train Depot, where they studied the local transportation architecture. Next, they met Will Tackett, the city planner, to discuss the role of urban planning at Fresno City Hall. Then, they had lunch by the old water tower and talked about public spaces throughout the downtown area. After eating lunch, they went to the Fulton Mall to look at pedestrian walkways and art. Finally,

From Astronaut to Teacher

Lee Vang, born and raised in Thailand, moved to America at a young age. He has five brothers, two sisters, and no pets. His childhood inspiration was an astronaut, whom he saw on TV shows. Vang knew that in order to become someone, he had to have an education. He also enjoyed math, his favorite subject in school. Vang currently loves to spend his free time with his family, kids, and going hunting. When asked if he enjoys his job, he replied, Absolutely, I love my job! The kids here are great! The craziest thing he has seen on campus is people throwing trash on the ground. What are your

His favorite things about coming to work at Kings Canyon are helping the students become successful citizens of their community and working with such a friendly staff.

#1 Champions : Lady Grizzlies Volleyball by Ruby M.

The varsity volleyball team, led by coach Crozier, won 1st place at the championship! With hard work and dedication, these girls accomplished a great success. Throughout the season, they played with motivation. Even if they lost a game, they were happy because they knew they at least tried and never turned against one another. Theyd help each other out, never yell because that wouldnt be good sportsmanship. They won Sequoia at the championship, the team they lost to during the season. I guess you can say that they werent going to let the Lumberjacks get away with their victory. They came back at them with a strong and determined group of girls who were ready to claim what was meant to be theirs . Lets give the lady Grizzlies the round of applause they deserve!. :)

Cross Country Team from Home of the Grizzlies :) by Ruby M.

The cross country team did very well this year. With hard work and dedication they were able to continue on succeeding as a team. No one was left behind. They helped with ongoing encouragement and support for each other. During the races theyd cheer for their teammates as they ran and were supportive of whichever place they came in at the end. Thanks to Coach Slevkoff, for coaching the team and motivating them to keep on going even when they were tired . Like she always said, Work when youre tired and never give up. One of the runners, Victoria Juarez, said It was a difficult season, but I had fun. Another runner, Orlando Morales, said the season was hard work with a giggle . :) Overall, these runners dedicated themselves to their races and practices every day. How about a round of applause to these hard workers ?!?!?

The Boys From the Home of the Grizzlies : Our Football Team by Ruby M.
These young men who enjoy playing football had fun during this season. Juan Aispiro says, It was horrible because we lost many times haha, but it was fun overall. They practiced hard everyday and they never argued, because that wouldnt be good for the team. There were some arguments every now and then, but they pulled through with great memories and friendships made. It was fun watching them play and put forth so much effort into their games and practices. Give them a round of applause for all of their hard work when you see them.

EECU Visits KCs Avid Students

Patty Martin, from Educational Employees Credit Union, came to KCMS to present A Day in the Life of an Adult to 90 AVID students. They were to choose a career, figure out their gross pay and work out their net deductions. These students were able to see how the money they spend and save affects their future, especially when learning about 401Ks. The class also discussed how donating money (church, foundations, causes, etc.) will come back to them. These discussions brought about the topic of future goals and being intentional about making wise decisions concerning education and career options. AVID students are now brainstorming careers that will help them afford family expenses, a house, and even a car! Thank you Mrs. Hickey and Mr. Gaither for making this possible!
