Revision worksheet 2 1. A parallel plate capacitor, each with plate area A and separation d, is charged to a potential difference V.

the battery is then disconnected. A dielectric slab of thickness d and dielectric constant k is now placed between the plates. What change, if any will take place in (i) charge on the plates (ii) electric filed intensity between the plates and (iii) capacitance of the capacitor. 2. A uniform electric field of 300N/C is directed along PQ. A,B and C are three points in the field having x and y coordinates in metres as shown in figure. Calculate the potential difference between the points (i) A and B (ii) B and C

3. A ray of light, incident on an equilateral glass prism ( = ) moves parallel to the base of the prism inside it. What is the angle of incidence for this ray? 4. An electric heater is connected, turn by turn, to a d.c and a.c sources of equal voltages. Will the rate of heat production be same in the two cases? Explain. 5. Two identical cells of negligible internal resistance are connected in (i) series and (ii) parallel with each other. Find the ratio of currents through a load of resistance R in the two cases. 6. Two circular loops of radii r and 2r have currents I and I/2 flowing through them in clockwise and anticlockwise sense respectively. If their equivalent magnetic moments are M1 and M2 respectively, state the relation between M1 and M2. 7. A 0.5 m long metal rod PQ completes the circuit as shown in the figure. The area of the circuit is perpendicular to the magnetic field of flux density 0.15T. if the resistance of the total circuit is 3, calculate the force needed to move the rod in the direction as indicated with a constant speed of 2m/s.
