WORK EXPERIENCE

June 2009- Future Home Care Support worker

Present I’ve just started working in a carehome. Although I’m
passionate about design, working in a carehome is
something I’ve always wanted to do, which I’m going to do
until I get a full time job in design. In the job I work with
people with severe physical and mental disabilities. I help my
clients meet new people, find them a job and help them to
become more independent. The job is often quite
demanding, but I feel it’s extremely rewarding knowing
you’ve made a difference to people’s lives.

June 2008- Freelance work

Present Since June last year I have completed projects for
a range of clients, including shop fronts for a national clothes
shop, a corporate identity for a Carpenter, website for a
Dating service, and business cards for a childminder etc

Diabetes handbook and create some flyers for a new forum
for the NHS. I really enjoyed the experience and have been
asked to come back in September

5th-8th Plus International Design Festival

November 2008 For two weeks I volunteered at the Plus festival in
Birmingham. During that time I helped set up the exhibition. I
Also worked on Reception, and worked in the office inputting
data and answering phone calls etc. I loved helping out at
the Exhibition. I met Jonathan Barnbrook as well as many
local Artists and Designers
October 2008 Spaghetti Junction Magazine
In October 2008 I wrote to the editor of the magazine
‘Spaghetti Junction’, which is a magazine going out to the
24,460 students at Birmingham City University. I told the
editor that I felt the design of the magazine could be
improved. I then attended an interview with two of the
graphic designers. I shown them my work which they liked,
and I created a double page spread, which then went out to
be printed.
I thoroughly enjoyed working with the team at Spaghetti
Junction, and will soon be creating the Advertising for it.

August 25th- Dodo, Mammoth Reindeer & Fox

Sept 12th 2008 Newport Pagnell, Milton Keynes
During my work experience I created Thank you cards for
one of the company’s clients World Vision. I also re-branded
a property company from their old name Mercantile Land to
the new name Hornbeam properties. I answered letters and
emails, as well as going out to speak to clients.
The work experience was originally for two weeks in
August, but it was then extended until the end of September.
I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and was asked if I
could come back when I’m not at University.

24th June - Year 10 work experience

8th July 2001 During this time I worked at WHSmith in Rugby and at
The Rugby Advertiser newspaper in Rugby. At WHSmith I
was given the task to create a window display. The theme
was ‘Lord of the rings’, and I used mugs and merchandise
to successfully advertise the release of the latest film. The
Regional Manager was extremely impressed and I was
given gift vouchers to say thank you.
At the Rugby Advertiser I learnt how to use computer
programs such as Photoshop and In Design. I was also
given a story about some local teenagers who had special
needs. They were performing a play, which I researched by
phoning the company. Photos were then took which I
arranged, and I also wrote the article, which was published
in the newspaper
