Science Fair for Young Children Guided Experiments EXPERIMENT: 12 Title of the experiment Problem : : Detergents and Plant

Growth Do non biodegradable pollutants such as detergent affect plant growth? Aim/ Objective : To identify whether non biodegradable detergents affect growth of plant. Hypothesis : Detergents will affect the plant growth and kill the plant because non biodegradable detergents are poisonous to most living things. Apparatus : 4 plants of the same species in small pot, 3 different types of detergent, area with sufficient sunshine. Variables : Identify which variables are fixed/ manipulated/ responding variables.

Procedures

1. The most important apparatus in this experiment is the plant. Make sure all plants are of same size and same species. Also make sure that the plants are in good condition and not withered. 2. Take the first plant and put it in the area where you are doing your experiment. Water it and let it stay. 3. Next, take the 3 detergents and mix half a cup of detergent with half a cup of water and pour the mixtures in each of the remaining 3 plants

Note

Participants could present the records with photos of the plants each day. However, photos alone are not sufficient. Critical observations about the plants are important. E.g. the colour of the leaves, how many leaves etc..

Records / Data collecting

Summary should be written on the observation.

Calculation/ Graph (if have) : Result Conclusion : : Please state your observation. On your observation, based on relevant scientific theory. Life Examples Acknowledgement References : : : Sea pollution, ..
